Penn State adds commitment and targets others; insight on Lions’ top basketball signees

We’re wrapping up this week with a two-pronged approach to Penn State recruiting efforts on a Friday episode, shifting focus between football and basketball with a pair of 247Sports network experts. Following a Wednesday night commitment from four-star New Jersey receiver Ejani Shakirthis show begins with attention on PSU’s 2023 football recruiting class.

This group has added five prospects since the start of April, and it’s now ranked third nationally in 247Sports’ class rankings. 247Sports recruiting analyst Brian Dohn returns to help break down the addition of Shakir and factors that led to a decision, which marks the Nittany Lions’ initial receiver pickup of the cycle. Plus, we review updates related to a few notable targets, including a new commitment timeline and evolving official visit schedules.

The Penn State basketball team then enters the spotlight following the release of 247Sports’ final Top 150 rankings for 2022 recruits. A trio of incoming Nittany Lions signees landed on that list, and each of them are addressed by 247Sports director of basketball scouting Adam Finkelsteinan industry veteran who makes first Lions247 Podcast appearance and offers thoughts on program development under head coach Micah Shrewsberry.

Finkelstein is especially high on a guard within the Nittany Lions’ hoops class, and he explains why there are ingredients for a potential culture driver at point guard.
